Alyssa's Beautiful Natural Hair

I'll admit I am jealous of Alyssa's hair. She has beautiful curls, and it's fun to try different styles on it. Most of the time I just let her wear it out. But I love a single pony tails, pig tails, several pony tails, and I've even done a couple of buns.

Alyssa and Haley have completely different textures of hair. Haley has mine, and Alyssa has her dads. So it's a learning experiment trying to figure out what works best for both of them. Here are pictures of Alyssa's hair. Beware of cuteness :)

My First Twist Out

I tried a twist out on Haley's hair for the first time. I must say for a first try, I think I did ok. Next time I will do the front a little tighter because her bangs are short, and didn't want to stay in the twists. I love how the back came out, and she loves her hair too. I think we will do twist outs once a week, because it will help her hair and give her a break from being in pony tails.

It only took me an hour to do, because her hair is so thick. I don't think that was too bad. I've read that for some women it can take all day, so I was surprised when it only took an hour. Here's some pictures of her hair.

Feeling Secure

Are you secure with your natural hair? When I first went natural, I'll admit I wasn't very secure about my hair. I was worried about the stares, the questions, and how I would be perceived. Luckily I didn't get too much of that. I remember getting asked by a co worker, if I was "sick" She said it so uncomfortably, like she knew she shouldn't have asked.

I told her "no, I just decided to start wearing my natural hair." Besides that I didn't get any other questions. This time around I'm a lot better about my hair. I'm more confident, I hold my head up, and I'm not afraid to walk out the door. For some reason, I thought I would revert back to my old self, and be scared. But I wasn't, I had this freeing feeling when I saw my twa.

Now I always find myself looking at numerous youtube videos, natural hair blogs, tweets everything I can think of. Trying to figure out what I can do to keep my hair natural, but most importantly, healthy.

It's going to take a lot of work, and patience, but I am looking forward to it. This is a journey that I don't mind taking.

How I do my hair

I did a video showing you how I do my hair every morning. It's very quick and easy, enjoy :)

Deep Conditioning

When I went natural the first time, I didn't know you had to actually deep condition your hair. Now that I am committed to staying natural, I want to learn as much as I possibly can about being natural, and having healthy natural hair.

This past Monday I deep conditioned my hair. I poured some EVOO on my hands, and rubbed it all over my hair. Then I pour some honey in my hands and rubbed it all over my hair. I then put a shower cap on, and killed time for 2 hours. After 2 hours I took a shower, and washed my hair with V05 Tea Therapy conditioner.

After my shower, my hair was so soft. I put some Jojoba oil on and went about my day. Now why do I put those particular products on my hair. EVOO adds moisture and honey is a humecent so it holds the moisture in.

Deep conditioning is an important part of having healthy natural hair. Some women DC once a week, multiple times a week, or twice a month. It's all up to you, and how often you want to do it. I will most likely DC once a week. But that might change as my hair grows.

What is your DC regimen and how often do you DC?

My first week

My first week of being natural has been pretty easy. I did my big chop on the top of my head on August 17th. I still have some transitioning to do, but I'm excited to go on this natural journey.

I bought some V05 Tea Therapy conditioner for my hair, and so far my hair loves it. I deep conditioned my hair yesterday with honey and EVOO and my hair is so soft. Then I topped it off with some Jojoba oil. So far this regimen works for me. I'm sure it will change as my hair changes and grows. I can't wait to learn more about my hair

I have a fotki page that has pictures of my hair. You can see it here, and a youtube channel where I will be vlogging about my hair, you can see it here.
